Now Published: User Stories from a Technical Perspective

Jun 30, 2026 | News

Understanding how a Digital Product Passport works in practice requires more than knowing the regulatory requirements. It also requires a clear view of the underlying processes, system interactions and technical dependencies.

With the publication of User Stories from a Technical Perspective v1.0, the BatteryPass-Ready project provides a structured overview of key business processes across the Digital Battery Passport ecosystem.

The user stories translate regulatory and technical requirements into concrete process flows that helps companies understand:
🔹 which actors are involved
🔹 which steps need to happen, and in what order
🔹 how systems interact across the Battery Passport ecosystem
🔹 where access rights, identifiers, APIs and authentication mechanisms become relevant

The document covers central business processes of the Battery Passport lifecycle:
🔸 registering a battery and placing it on the market
🔸 accessing public and controlled Battery Passport data
🔸 maintaining and updating passport information
🔸 searching for Battery Passports
🔸 managing end-of-life events, including repair and recycling activities

A particular focus is placed on failure and test scenarios. These help identify where processes may break down, which system responses are expected, and which interaction points need to be tested carefully.

Defining test preconditions ensures that tests are executed under consistent conditions, while expected results provide measurable criteria for assessing system behavior and validating requirements.

This document serves as the analytical foundation for the BatteryPass-Ready Test Environment, which was launched last week.

Together, the user stories and the test environment help make the Digital Battery Passport more accessible. They support companies in moving from understanding regulatory obligations to preparing, testing and validating their DPP systems in practice.
