Patrick Gering (Fraunhofer IPK) presented the BatteryPass-Ready project at the ISM Conference in Malta. The International Conference on Industry of the Future and Smart Manufacturing is an important gathering for shaping the future of Digital Product Passports (DPPs) across sectors.

Throughout the conference, several key DPP topics were in focus, including:

  • Standards, ontologies, and semantics – aligning frameworks to achieve interoperability
  • Reducing administrative burden across legislation and jurisdictions
  • Data quality as a foundation for reliable DPPs
  • Sector pilots, including batteries (testing environments led by us, consumer adoption, EV disassembly), timber waste remanufacturing, metal sorting & recycling, biomedical applications, plastics, and electronics
  • A recurring theme in the sessions was: DPPs are shifting from mere compliance tools to strategic business enablers; unlocking traceability, circular processes, and cross-sector data sharing.
